Welcome to Abdul Mutashobya (Muta)’s Personal Site!
My path to a career in education wasn’t a straight line. From growing up in rural Tanzania and facing a nine-year interruption in my own schooling, to pursuing my doctorate today, my journey has shown me that while education has the power to liberate, access is rarely equitable. That experience instilled in me a core belief: talent is universal, but opportunity is not.
I have spent my career acting as a bridge for learners navigating new and complex systems. My experience ranges from teaching university courses as a Fulbright Scholar and guiding International Baccalaureate students, to designing comprehensive workforce-readiness curricula for community-based adult education programs. Whether working with international students or adult learners, my focus remains the same: giving people the tools and confidence to build their future.
Currently, I apply this lens as a leader at MSU’s Envision Green, where I develop success initiatives for incoming transfer students. However, I know that hands-on support must be paired with structural change. As a doctoral student in Educational Leadership, I am using the tools of improvement science to move beyond fixing isolated problems. My goal is to design educational systems that are equitable from the start, focusing on repaying the education debt owed to marginalized communities rather than focusing on student deficits.
Thank you for stopping by. If this is the kind of work you care about too, I’d love to connect.
